ProLOEWE mini-series "It all starts with curiosity" for World Laboratory Day
To mark World Laboratory Day on 23 April, ADMIT took part in the ProLOEWE mini-series “It all starts with curiosity”. Over seven days, a daily image snippet showcased some of the research taking place in the LOEWE laboratories and invited the community to join in the guessing game via LinkedIn.
The image shared by ADMIT shows the surface receive coil, as used in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). These coils act as antennas to pick up the magnetic resonance signals emitted from the body during an MRI scan. They are placed directly on or very close to the area of the body being examined, such as the head, knee, or back. Their particular advantage lies in their ability to capture extremely detailed signals from the tissue, thus significantly improving image quality.
The component shown comes from the laboratory of our leading Principal Imvestigator Prof. Dr. Boris Keil at THM Gießen, where work is being done on modern, flexible, and patient-specific coils. The goal of this research is to further improve image resolution and signal quality, make even the smallest anatomical structures visible, and simultaneously increase patient comfort.
