ADMIT in Rome
From 4 to 6 December 2024, our PhD students from subproject A and D took part in the FLASH Radiotherapy & Particle Therapy - FRPT Conference 2024 in Rome, Italy. In its 4th edition, FRPT 2024 focussed on the diverse range of topics related to FLASH therapy. This novel treatment method irradiates tumours with photons or particles using ultra-high dose rates. This not only significantly shortens the treatment time, but also protects healthy tissue to a greater extent compared to conventional radiotherapy or particle therapy.
In addition to the opportunity to network in the internationale research community, the PhD students gained valuable insights into the current state of research on range modulators and new techniques for dosimetry in FLASH particle therapy, which are particularly important for the further research of subproject A ‘Range modulator and neutrons in particle therapy with protons’. In addition, contributions on modelling and effects under FLASH conditions at the cellular level provided important insights that are beneficial for the further work of subproject D ‘Monte Carlo simulations to describe the radiation effect of carbon ions and protons at the cellular level’.
Another highlight of the conference was the presentation by our Associate member Prof. Dr. Uli Weber (THM), who presented his work on the application of range modulators in carbon FLASH therapy as part of the ‘Highest Scored Abstracts’.
